If you die and get podded in wormhole space in EVE, how do you return to your wormhole? You could just set a destination for whatever system the static comes out at, and jump back through, but what if your attacker rolls that static in the mean time? You would be locked out of your wormhole with no way of getting back other than random trial and error and scanning down thousands of wormholes hoping that you find the one that leads to yours.
To guard against this possibility, TSOTH developed what we call the “Designated Survivor” concept. An alt with just enough skills trained to be able to scan anomalies, and use a covert ops cloak. That alt is then taken into the wormhole with a supply of scan probes, goes to a safespot, and logs off. It is never logged in again unless needed to scan down an entry wormhole for stranded corp mates to return to. We call it the Designated Survivor because the sole purpose of the alt is to just sit in an isolated location, and is only called into action if the rest of the corp is completely wiped out or cut off from our wormhole.
We think that more corps and alliances should make use of this concept, as it all but assures that you maintain a permanent presence and access to your wormhole.
